Full Moon in Cancer on 2nd January 2018

Nurturing, Vulnerable and Sensitive

On January the 2nd there will be a Full Moon in its natural home of Cancer, before looking what the Cancer Moon means let’s look a little closer at the Moon and what it represents in astrology.

The Moon in Astrology

The Moon represents our inner world: our emotions, our mood, inner security, sensitivity, the unconscious and intuition.  In astrology the Moon is one of the most important planets as she is mother, home, family, feelings, our habits and how we instinctually react to life.  The Moon rules the sensitive sign of Cancer.

In your natal chart (the time of your birth) the Moons location tells you your emotional tendencies while the Moon’s current location as it moves across sky impacts on our feelings and behaviour in the present.   She speaks to us through our feelings.

About the Sign of Cancer

In astrology, the natural ruler of Cancer is The Moon. Cancer is the cardinal water sign, meaning it is one of the initiators of the zodiac.  When you think of it, our emotions are very powerful in initiating action. Cancer correlates to the stomach where we feel our emotions, the breasts, womb and ovaries, therefore it’s known as the “Nurturer” of the Zodiac.

Symbolised by the Crab being tough on the outside while caring deeply for others.  Acutely sensitive, easily hurt, moody or “crabby” the acute sensitivity sees a Cancerian retreat or withdraw and won’t venture out until they are ready.  Cancer has great tenacity and will fiercely protect themselves and anyone they care for.

The Full Moon in Cancer

No matter where our Sun or Moon is in our Natal Chart (Birth Chart), we are all effected by the Cancer Full Moon. Emotions can be heightened at this time, and you may feel incredibly sensitive to just about everything. This can be a good thing so really tune into your feelings and find out what you really need in your life to “feel” fulfilled.

As the energy of Cancer is stirred you may feel the urge to “mother and nurture” others, which could be everyone. Matters of family and home will be more important than usual so you may want to have your loved ones around you.  Great time to fire up the BBQ and have some friends and family around.

Cancer Moon may trigger memories of the past, if the memory was painful there can be great difficulty in letting it go.  Emotions are not so easy to dismiss and this can be a long process for some.

At this time the Cancer Full Moon faces the Sun in Capricorn, it’s opposite sign. Both these signs correlate with feelings of security.   Capricorn looks for processes externally to achieve the feelings of security, while the Cancer Full Moon gets us to tune into to our internal world.

If we don’t’ have a plan to follow our feelings of being insecure can run off the rails but once we can follow a plan we can counterbalance our feelings of security in both our inner and outer worlds.

How the Full Moon in Cancer Coincides with Your Cycle

Day 15:  Today can sometimes can be a bit tough as some women may be experiencing a low day or two after ovulation.  The reason being right after ovulation the feel-good hormone “Oestrogen” crashes abruptly.

Day 16: With Oestrogen dropping off quickly, this can kick off a few days of feeling down, “Progesterone” is starting to take over and is often thought of as the “stay at home” hormone.  You’ll be transitioning into “nesting” mode where introversion and introspection can be wonderful assets.

Days 20, 21: Progesterone will be at its peak and you may be feeling more nurturing and loving.  Be mindful of over indulging but don’t beat yourself up about it.

Day 28:  Your relationships with loved ones sometimes can be well, let’s just say they can be interesting at times.  One minute you can be overwhelmed with feelings of love, the next, you’re irritated to the point of rage.  This time can be very confusing for someone who doesn’t feel the depth of their emotions. One remedy to get to the bottom of your true feelings is to write them down in a journal, it will give you clarity and the ability express yourself to others with your natural warmth and kindness.

Your emotions may also get an extra dose of Cancers Full Moon’s energy but if you are aware of this you’ll can be well prepared.
