New Moon in Cancer on 2nd July 2019

The Moon in Astrology

The Moon represents our internal world of emotions, feelings, inner security, deepest personal needs, the unconscious and intuition.   Our feelings of inner safety come from what is familiar to us.  This represents subconscious patterns previously developed which have become instinctual relating to our past.

The Moon is also associated with our mother or our most nurturing parent, our inner mother, our inner child (Moon’s energy is strongest in childhood), home, ancestors or the past and family.  It is receptive, responsive and reflective while protective, reacting instinctively and spontaneously.

When we look at our natal chart, the placement of our moon will disclose how we see ourselves, our emotional tendencies and what archetypal patterns are operating under the surface.  It also tells us how we protect ourselves and how we make ourselves feel safe and comfortable always ensuring feelings of safety.

The Moon rules the sensitive sign of Cancer and the 4th House which is one of the cardinal signs that moves us from past to future on a moment to moment basis. This is due to the Nodes of the Moon; the South Node (past what is familiar) and North Node (future where new experiences await). Depending on where your Moon’s Node positions are in your natal chart, your Moon position will tell you how you transition between the two or from past to future.

In your natal chart (the time of your birth) the Moons location tells you your emotional tendencies while the Moon’s current location as it moves across sky impacts on our feelings and behaviour in the present. She speaks to us through our feelings and emotions.

The Moon is Reflective.

Our feelings of security are created through consistent and familiar behaviour, reflecting back to us a constant reality.  Because of these feelings of  familiarity, it produces a sense of belonging that nurtures and protects us in turn giving us inner security.

The Moon in our natal chart will tell you how you see yourself and how you nurture yourself emotionally.  As we go through life we are continually in a process of evolution and it is through our emotional body we grow and mature, not through our intellect.  It is no wonder that the Moon’s natural home is in Cancer, 4th House where we seek our inner security with the opposite of Capricorn being where we seek outer security and maturity.

Dysfunctional Side of The Moon

Because the Moon symbolizes our feelings it’s important to address the shadow or dysfunctional side of the Moon as well.  Best described as emotionally self-indulgent, timid, wishy-washy, over reactive, moody, lazy, indecisive and imaginative.  Pure emotion.   If unhealthy or distorted imagination is fuelled by pure emotion it leads to feelings of emptiness and irrationality.

About the Sign of Cancer

In astrology, the natural ruler of Cancer is The Moon. Cancer is the cardinal water sign, meaning it is one of the initiators of the zodiac.  When you think of it, our emotions are very powerful in initiating action.

Cancer correlates to the stomach where we feel our emotions, the breasts, womb and ovaries, therefore it’s known as the “Nurturer” of the Zodiac.

Symbolised by the Crab being tough on the outside while caring deeply for others.  Acutely sensitive, easily hurt, moody or “crabby” the acute sensitivity sees a Cancerian retreat or withdraw and won’t venture out until they are ready.  Cancer has great tenacity and will fiercely protect themselves and anyone they care for.

New Moon in Cancer

No matter where our Sun or Moon is in our Natal Chart (Birth Chart), we are all effected by the Cancer New Moon.

The New Moon signifies “new beginnings” and is a time to set the seeds for the future, so the New Moon in Cancer can trigger emotions of safety and security most likely with you feeling extra sensitive. This is the ideal time to get in touch with your feelings and intuition.  The Cancer New Moon invites us to our feelings of home, security, family and nurturing.

The Cancer New Moon helps you get in touch with your intuition and to listen to the messages and signals you are receiving.  Being a cardinal sign, it will initiate change so ideally you should not wear yourself out but treat yourself gently. Cancer represents the desire to belong, feel safe and cared for.  In saying this you may become more aware of your emotional needs which may include the wounds of the past.

Letting go isn’t easy if the emotional wounds run deep, however if the wounds and hurtful memories of the past are making themselves known it is time to open up, feel the feeling accept the need for change and let go.  In hindsight it is these kinds of experiences which help us grow.

How the New Moon in Cancer Coincides with Your Cycle

Week 1:

A welcome feeling of relief describes this week perfectly creating a space or window of time to recover from the previous week.  The New Moon in Cancer will trigger your feelings of inner safety and security.  You will be more in touch with your feelings and emotions because of the extra sensitivities that are stirred up.  Listen to the messages and signals you are receiving and tune in to your intuition.  Being with our own emotions and feelings is one of the most nourishing and nurturing things you will do for yourself and will make you aware of your emotional needs and help heal the wounds from your past.  This is an ideal time to face your fears to start the emotional letting go process. To do this check out The Work of Byron Katie.

Week 2:

This week the emotions are so much calmer which is reflected in your thinking and behaviour.  Feelings of excitement and confidence will be obvious this week and you may be ready to make some new choices to improve your home or work environment with creative ways.  This is a good week to look at what makes you feel unsafe and what protects you.  For future planning this is a good week to set seeds for your future retirement.   Intimacy and closeness with your significant other will be very special time of sharing your feelings, and you don’t need a partner to do this.  Some of our most intimate times are with family and friends including our animal companions.   A great question to ask yourself this week is: “how do I nurture myself emotionally”.

Week 3:

Feelings of being more nurturing and loving to yourself and others will be more prominent this week.  Your moods may swing from being very loving to unsavoury due to heightened sensitivities. In saying that be selective of the company you are keeping at this time.  This would be the ideal week to start finding resolutions to any family issues so be willing to ask for help. Your sense of compassion will be obvious so seeing things from another’s point of view will be helpful to you in understanding their point of view.   Being in the doldrums and having a dose of the blues occurs during this week, a walk in nature, snuggling up with a movie are very comforting activities with the New Moon in Cancer.

Week 4:

One minute you can be overwhelmed with feelings of love, the next, you’re irritated to the point of rage.   This can be such a difficult time for some women, the restlessness, agitation to internal torment, anguish and suffering.  If you are experiencing intense emotional outbursts to protect and feeling intense hurt, it is time to call the nurturing mother within you.  To hold you, protect you and keep you safe.

Emotional outbursts and extreme moodiness will make this week even more difficult at times. If you can find a haven you can be in to separate yourself from the triggers. Just remember ‘’this too shall pass”
