New Moon in Virgo on 30th August 2019

The Moon in Astrology

The Moon represents our internal world of emotions, feelings, inner security, deepest personal needs, the unconscious and intuition.   Our feelings of inner safety come from what is familiar to us. This represents subconscious patterns previously developed which have become instinctual relating to our past.

The Moon is also associated with our mother or our most nurturing parent, our inner mother, our inner child (Moon’s energy is strongest in childhood), home, ancestors or the past and family. It is receptive, responsive and reflective while protective, reacting instinctively and spontaneously.

When we look at our natal chart, the placement of our moon will disclose how we see ourselves, our emotional tendencies and what archetypal patterns are operating under the surface.  It also tells us how we protect ourselves and how we make ourselves feel safe and comfortable always ensuring feelings of safety.

The Moon rules the sensitive sign of Cancer and the 4th House which is one of the cardinal signs that moves us from past to future on a moment to moment basis. This is due to the Nodes of the Moon; the South Node (past what is familiar) and North Node (future where new experiences await).  Depending on where your Moon’s Node positions are in your natal chart, your Moon position will tell you how you transition between the two or from past to future.

In your natal chart (the time of your birth) the Moons location tells you your emotional tendencies while the Moon’s current location as it moves across sky impacts on our feelings and behaviour in the present. She speaks to us through our feelings and emotions.

The Moon is Reflective.

Our feelings of security are created through consistent and familiar behaviour, reflecting back to us a constant reality.  Because of these feelings of  familiarity, it produces a sense of belonging that nurtures and protects us in turn giving us inner security.

The Moon in our natal chart will tell you how you see yourself and how you nurture yourself emotionally.  As we go through life we are continually in a process of evolution and it is through our emotional body we grow and mature, not through our intellect.  It is no wonder that the Moon’s natural home is in Cancer, 4th House where we seek our inner security with the opposite of Capricorn being where we seek outer security and maturity.

Dysfunctional Side of The Moon

Because the Moon symbolizes our feelings it’s important to address the shadow or dysfunctional side of the Moon as well.  Best described as emotionally self-indulgent, timid, wishy-washy, over reactive, moody, lazy, indecisive and imaginative.  Pure emotion. If unhealthy or distorted imagination is fuelled by pure emotion it leads to feelings of emptiness and irrationality.

New Moon in Virgo

No matter where our Sun or Moon is in our Natal Chart (Birth Chart), we are all effected by the New Moon in Virgo.

The New Moon signifies “new beginnings” and is a time to set the seeds for the future, so the New Moon in Virgo helps you to renew ways you can take care of yourself to enhance your health and discernment in what is necessary in your life and to let go of that which is not.

This Virgo New Moons energy is asking you to look deeply at the details of your life and disregard what you don’t need. You may feel the need to declutter your house and/or place of work as this time will make it easier to discard things you really don’t need or use anymore whether that’s selling them or giving them away. Because Virgo is all about discernment it helps give clarity to what is necessary in your life.

If you’ve been working on something for some time now you can start to organise a way to bring it into the physical world to put to use. Listen to your gut instincts, this will help you avoid the mental activity of criticism and judgement in wanting it to be perfect. Perfection is something we strive for and what we perceive perfection to be. The Virgo energy is brilliant at being methodical, analytical and detailed but don’t get caught up too much in the complexities of things as this will fuel the compulsiveness to be perfect leading to worry and nervousness.

Your health and healing are ruled by Virgo, the Virgo New Moon will help you tune into your body to see where you can improve and make changes.  Look at your eating and exercise regime and include meditation to improve your health and healing on a holistic level.

You may look at detoxing your body to cleanse and remove toxins to improve your health from both outside and inside. Our minds can become cluttered with critical and stressful thinking interfering with our health. We cannot stop our stressful thoughts, but we can have a process to deal with our toxic thinking helping us to let go of those that do not serve us. Be aware you don’t become unbearable to live with during this time.

Helping others is one of the most fulfilling things we can do not just for others but for ourselves, however it is vital to serve yourself. Often women put others before themselves only to find they are depleted of energy leading to health issues.   Remember to include yourself when being of service.

How the New Moon in Virgo Coincides with Your Cycle

Week 1:

A welcome feeling of relief describes this week perfectly creating a space or window of time to recover from the previous week. While this week is initially uncomfortable, things improve after the first few days giving you the opportunity to take a more discerning look at your daily routines including your health of mind and body. Look at new ways to improve your health and let go of unhealthy dietary habits. You may be considering taking up a new study or course to learn more about health or researching natural remedies.

Week 2:

As your brain and thought processes are at warp speed this week you may want to look at decluttering any unnecessary items that do not serve you anymore. This could be from clearing out paper work to household items that can be given to someone not as fortunate. This is the week is great to simplify your life by focusing on improving things and getting things done.

Whether you are in a relationship or not do something fulfilling going for a walk in nature and spending quality time with a companion which includes our furry animal friends.

Week 3:

With things starting to slow down you may look for comforting activities, food or just having quiet time by yourself. Pay attention to your thoughts as you can experience the doldrums this week. Thoughts of self-criticism can start to creep in creating  moodiness that when turned inwards is damaging.   Take yourself out for a walk to be in different surroundings, have a massage or even better do something for someone unconditionally, it will do wonders.

Week 4:

This is the most challenging time of all during the menstrual cycle. You may experience feelings of things being difficult while striving for perfection.  This is simply draining especially if there is no structure to organise it in. No wonder we have feelings of failure begin to creep in. A change to your daily routine is ideal in the New Moon of Virgo. Even if it’s just getting up five minutes earlier deciding what is the most important thing you want to get done. This will help alleviate anxiety, frustration and self-criticism and you will accomplish more.

We are told to strive for perfection in every area of our lives which is totally ridiculous and a burden we put on ourselves. You are already dealing with hormones at non-existent levels where suffering and torment is already breathing down your neck which at its worst can tip you into a depression.

On one side the New Moon in Virgo may emphasis this even more, so heed the gentle loving side of this New Moon in Virgo. She gives us the ability to fine-tuning our way to perfection (as if there were such a thing!). Perfection is a destination not a starting point.
